It seems as though even cheeky boy band stars are not immune to the delights of having a bit of a flutter in a casino, after stories broke of One Direction gambling during their Australian tour, during a night in which they lost what Niall Horan described as “a lot” of money.
According to the young singer, things got out of control rather rapidly when he and band mates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson headed out for a night off in the midst of their tour. To all intents, and purposes, the idea was just to go out and have a good time at a great entertainment complex – but things quickly began a downward spiral, as Horan explained to reporters recently.
“Like most of the stupid things we do, it seemed like it was a good idea at the time,” he said. “We thought it was funny. We just thought, ‘We’re 18, this is the first time we’ve been able to spend a bit of money in weeks because we’d been on the road.’ In all honesty, I didn’t have a clue what was happening. I won £100, which seemed reasonable, then I stopped. I’ll have to say, ‘No comment’ about the others. Let’s just say it got a bit ugly and a lot of money was lost. A lot.”
Reportedly, the boys’ management team were not too happy with their newfound love for slot machine games at all, with apparently a few harsh words being shared after their excesses came to light. It certainly is not something that the record label would want them to be associated with ahead of the release of their second album, ‘Take Me Home’ – though perhaps it will be good for them to get a bit more of a grown up reputation. After all, if it’s good enough for Prince Harry, it must be good enough for a quintet of pop singers! Simon Cowell has said that he is “very lucky” after hearing their new album, calling it “fantastic” and adding that he “can’t wait” for it to go on sale.
